Platonic Ideal 2022
Dec. 9th, 2022 02:00 pmThank you for writing for me! If you are drawing, just make sure not to include those DNW that would apply to a visual medium and feel free to take inspiration from the prompts I offer. Illustrations or comics or portraits are all good. I very much enjoy some symbolism in art but don't feel bound by that.
General DNW
AUs unless requested. • No BIG canon divergencies unless requested. • Crack fic. • Focus on pregnancy or childbirth. • Focus on gender dysphoria. • Character bashing. I am happy with characters disagreeing passionately and having negative opinions of other characters, but don't make them into your mouthpiece. Also don't make fun of or belittle characters gratuitously, especially those of the requested ships. • Focus on scat, piss, vomit. I'm fine with mentions of unsanitary things, but no focus on it; as in, nothing that is deliberately trying to squick the reader out or is kinking on these fluids. (Blood is perfectly fine.) • Second person writing. • "Educational" fiction. Some of the characters in my requests can be objectively and patently wrong in their beliefs, we all know that, so please when writing a pov that's wrong/prejudiced in some manner don't insert any "and that, kids, was morally a bad thing" in the text. • No writing out of canon-compliant various -isms or -phobias. If a world area or time period is e.g. homophobic, I don't want the struggles of characters that have to live with it written away. However, if such things are not present in a given sitution, don't add them in for the sake of it. • A/B/O, genderswap, alien genitalia, m!preg/cis man pregnancy. • Maggots, terminal illnesses, feederism and eating disorders, soulmates and hanahaki. • Rape experiences or trauma are fine as background or in the story as long as they're not detailed or the focus. • No X character is secretly a bastard of Y character unless requested (relatedly, no non-canon cheating on a spouse.) • Denial of structural power imbalances.
Dragon Age DNW
Secret half-elven parentage for characters for whom it isn't canon. • Half elves having obviously elven traits, the Dalish being (as a uniform group) perfectly accepting of city elves. • Unquestioned or endorsed national stereotypes in the narrative (e.g. Fereldan people are always honest and good, Orlesians are always deceitful). • Stories set in Tevinter where all the "good guys" are foreign and all the "bad guys" are local. • Bashing Anora, fem!Cousland married to/shipped with Alistair, Alistair ruling alone. • The Chantry depicted as unquestionably right. • Focus on Cullen; any ships involving him and a mage, even in the background. • Adoribull mentions. • Switching DA:I advisors with another character (e.g. Morrigan with Merrill) unless requested. • Preference for canon backgrounds for PCs and no canon-breaking PCs (e.g. the Inquisitor becomes Divine) unless requested. • If writing a PC, please give them an actual name (even the default is fine) instead of referring to them solely by surname (exception for Hawke).
Prompts!
I'd love to see what you can come up with when it comes to Loghain and Cousland. I have a preference for a recruited Loghain here, for obvious reasons, since I can't imagine them interact terribly much before that. Cousland seems young for it. But afterwards, I think it'd be great. Maybe you could also have Cousland show up during the Inquisition timeline, or between games. Is there camaraderie? Hero worship? Sense of betrayal or admiration? Something parental developing in the long run? Something even more complex?
As for Clarel and Loghain, I usually ship them romantically, but what makes them really interesting can be the basis of a completely platonic relationship as well. Clarel's death is the second most wasted potential in a character in my opinion. I think it would be great if she survived and had to face her actions and decisions and what she did when she was desperate and propelled by duty, which incidentally is also what Loghain has to do if he survives and becomes a Warden. I feel like he's super well-equipped to understand her. And of course, it's doubly juicy considering his initial opinion of Orlesians, and her willingness to enter Ferelden to help during the Blight and later negotiations with Teagan. How does this basis translate to a relationship? If you don't want to write an AU, I'm totally down to read how they interact while he's a Warden in Orlais too, since I feel they have, at their core, profoundly similar personalities.
Very interested in Leliana and Vivienne interacting. They both know the game well, they both were involved in the courts of Orlais, and then Leli even returned as Left Hand of the Divine. Did they ever brush shoulders before the Inqusition, and how? What's Leliana's opinion and first impression about Viv joining the Inquisition? How do they interact during the Inquisition period, what kind of banter or tips or opinions might they have on one another? What if either of them becomes Divine, in what way do they approve or disapprove of one another's policies? I'm really down for any time period with them.
I'd love to see Morrigan and Vivienne's sorta rivalry play out at the Orlesian court. Morrigan becoming Celene's new favourite is veeery interesting, and I'd be curious to see them play the game at court, or interact during the Inquisition. Maybe even something during the temple questline would be cool, or an exchange of opinons on the ways they respectively do magic.
For Thrask and Orsino, how do they interact in the Gallows? How does Orsino feel about one of the Templars who oppose Meredith and are overall a better person? Does Thrask ever help Orsino? Would things had gone differently, had Orsino been involved in Thrask's conspiracy directly? I'd also be curious to see an AU where they both survive DA2 and meet again during the gap of time between the game and Inquisition. I'm interested in seeing how the structural power imbalance affects this relationship, though I'd like for it to remain overall positive.
Thrask isn't Hawke's parent, but I do enjoy the idea of a daughter with no father and a father with a recently dead daughter who develop some sort of relationship based on their losses. However, if you'd rather write a different sort of relationship, be my guest! Maybe an adventure in Kirkwall? They talk about Bethany or Carver in the circle? I'm very open. I only DNW the version where Hawke blackmails Thrask about Olivia, as I'm not interested in that kind of interaction for them. Here as well, if you wanted to write an Inquisition AU, I'd love it as well. Meeting again after the conspiracy fiasco and perhaps apologising properly could be very juicy.
Conversely, Gaius has taken on the fake identity of a Magister to act on behalf of the agents of Fen'Harel. How was he recruited, what is his past, his education and role before he takes on that task? We see so little of him before he dies, but he is very interesting. How does he abandon an allegiance for another, does he discover pride, is he good at being deceitful? Was his position something like Flavius'?
And how might Crassius and Gereon interact? I'd be fun to see them both work for the Inquisition, and see their very different attitudes clash there. Servis is incredibly mercenary and Gereon is super depressed and lacking a cause or, at that point, probably a will to live entirely. Would either of those two things change if they interact a lot? Interested in see whether they met and worked together during their time with the Venatori too, and even a bad future AU could be good: does Servis ever meet Gereon during the year gap in the In Hushed Whispers quest?
So we know Maurevar helped Malcolm flee so he could elope with Leandra. What kind of relationship was there between them, and how did it develop? Why did Maurevar choose to aid Malcom that way? I would love to see this relationship explored before Malcom elopes.
Wentworth and Meredith is a father-daughter relationship as well as a story of radicalisation. Traumatised by the loss and transformation of her sister into an abomination, Meredith develops a sense of hero worship for the Templars who killed Amelia. The beliefs of her adult life are fostered and nurtured during her years with Wentworth, and I'm curious to see how this truly loving relationship also doubles up as what contributes to creating the king of Kinght-Commaner we see in DA2. I don't have a lot of interest in extremely fluffy kidfic though.
Likewise for Merrill, act 3 or post DA2 would be best. Both go for blood magic, but with radically different perspectives. How would do that look like, while Merrill helps refugees? Do they ever talk about it, or what happened in the Gallows? What if he attempts to summon the Harvester but she successfully stops the change before possession can happen, and then they talk about that? A lot of possible venues.
For Orsino and Meredith, I'd be curious to see how they interacted in the Circle, what Orsino did trying to champion the mages there, their debates. Whether she ever conceded him anything, and with what methods he won it. How her influence extends to all aspects of his life here, how it feeds his despair. I really have no interest in Meredith and Orsino depicted as "they are equally wrong", or like a relationship where they stand on even ground (or have romantic/sexual feelings for each other, which isn't gonna be a problem in this exchange, but for the sake of being thorough...). Make this as nuanced as you will but at the core this is an antagonistic relationship with Meredith holding power over Orsino.
I'm also always really interested in Ameridan and his relationships. He was friends with Drakon, how did that look like? How was the relationship between Orlais and the Dales back then, since it appears to be strong and entirely different from modern times? A lot of room to explore, so feel free to go wild.
For Nathaniel and Sebastian, I'm curious to see them interact during their youth, when Nathaniel was squired by Ser Rodolphe. They clearly had very different attitudes, with Sebastian being a rake and Nathaniel being trained in a very dutiful manner by Rodolphe. Also, both archers, though in different ways. What kind of relationship might they have? If they met again in DA2, how would that change, how might they both react to their "new" personalities? What of Seb's will to avenge his family? Sebastian during Inquisition shows a far more crusade-like attitude, when his newfound rule of Starkhaven and his religiosity mingle into the unholy mix we see displayed. I'm less interested in this period, and I don't feel as if Nathaniel would approve of this protracted personal vendetta, but if you feel like exploring something more antagonistic, by all means go for it.
Feynriel and Solas could go in SO many directions. I admit I'm primarily interested in a Feynriel who goes to Tevinter and, by Trespasser, has become a citizen there. He could meet a Solas in disguise. How might he react to discovering that Solas is another Somniari? What about his mixed background, how does it interact with Solas' intentions? If you do manage to make Solas interact with th Dreamstalker version of Feynriel, his possessed self, and make it more than just a fight, that could be very interesting too. Or maybe it's a Feynriel who gets his Tranquility reverted, and finds a teacher in Fen'Harel? Pick whichever calls to you the most.
For Charade and F!Hawke, I actually don't have a lot of ideas or requests except for seeing how they might connect. Do they ever meet at the Hanged Man? Does Charade have any space in the endgame events? Does she participate at all, or help in hiding Hawke after DA2? Gamlen showing up in this story could also be interesting.
Carver and M!Hawke could also go in many directions, depending on personality and relationship and Carver's eventual situation, so I will keep this prompt vaguer. I'm okay with anything from childhood to Inquisition, ad am okay both with a rivalry or a friendship path. Does Carver get out of his brother's shadow at any time, if he becomes a templar? Does he manage to avoid antagonism, if he's a warden? I'd even be down for an angsty "I am dying of the taint and there's no way out" sort of reconnecting, WHILE he is dying. Go wild.
Leliana and Sten is a curious relationship in Origins, but I'm also interested in her as spymaster and him as Arishok. Or post-Inquisition. Not a great many prompts here, my ideas are vague, but I'm intrigued by what you can build with them.
Zevran and Isabela have history, with how he helped with freeing her. I'd love to see their relationship explored after that. I know they have or can have sex, which I don't mind as an inclusion (usually I'd say definitely go for it and include it, but given the exchange rules, you can simply mention it in passing). I'd however be curious to see how they might relate emotionally and on an interpersonal level, given their history and possible past or future.

Preferences and state of the world: What I really don't want to read is in my Dragon Age DNW, so you can consider other things free game. I'm purposely not adding notes on any of the PCs, since I find it personally really difficult to fulfill someone else's expectations with OCs and always go with my version of things; so feel 200% entitled to exercise the same freedom. I have a playthrough for almost every possible iteration of the worldstate, chances are that I have at least a game where your canon matches with mine.
OCs and adding characters: I love some OCs and to see the world populated. If you're writing a specific relationship and think it'd be great to throw in other people who would live and act around them, both original and canon, that sounds great to me. You're also free to mix requests if you want, if they lend themselves to it. Usually I just care that the nominated relationship takes centre stage, but the more the merrier. I only ask not to put emphasis on unrequested PC romances, though you're good to mention them as long as my DNWs are respected.
